Gentle, effective care to save your natural tooth

Dealing with tooth pain that won’t go away, or have been told you need a root canal? You’re in the right place. Your Family Dental offers root canal treatment across the Sunshine Coast from our clinics in Little Mountain and Beerwah.

Using local anaesthetic and modern techniques, most patients are surprised by how manageable the procedure is.

What is root canal treatment?

Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, containing nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected or inflamed, it can’t heal on its own. Root canal treatment removes the damaged tissue, cleans and seals the inside of the tooth, and stops bacteria from returning.Without treatment, infection can spread, cause an abscess, and lead to tooth loss. Signs you may need a root canal

Get checked if you notice any of the following:

  • Toothache that lingers or won’t settle
  • Sensitivity to heat or cold that stays after the source is removed
  • Pain when biting or chewing
  • Swelling or a raised bump on the gum near a tooth
  • Darkening or discolouration of a tooth

The earlier it’s caught, the more straightforward the treatment tends to b

What happens during the procedure?

Treatment is usually completed in one or two appointments. Your dentist will take a digital X-ray, numb the area with local anaesthetic, remove the infected pulp, then clean and seal the canals. In most cases, a crown is placed afterwards to restore the tooth’s strength. If you’re

anxious about treatment, let our team know; we’ll take extra time to make you comfortable.

Recovery and aftercare

Most patients notice significant relief once the infection is treated. Mild tenderness for a day or two is normal and usually settles with over-the-counter pain relief. Avoid chewing on the treated side for the first day, and attend any follow-up appointments to check healing.

Why save your natural tooth?

Losing a tooth affects more than your smile. Neighbouring teeth can shift, the jawbone can deteriorate, and chewing patterns can change. A root canal is one of the most practical ways to protect your long-term oral health and avoid more complex work later. If extraction has been recommended, read more on our dental implants page
